During the 1960s and 1970s, Baume & Mercier produced a number of unconventional ladies' watches that blurred the line between traditional watchmaking and fine jewelry. The brand experimented with textured dials, decorative cases, and intricate gold bracelets, creating designs that reflected the more expressive jewelry trends of the era.
This reference 38244 is a beautiful example of that approach. Crafted entirely in 18K yellow gold, the watch measures 25mm x 22mm and just 6mm thick. The highlight is its understated linen dial, featuring a finely textured surface that gives the otherwise minimalist design a subtle sense of depth. Free from hour markers, the dial is complemented by simple gold hands and a distinctive oval case with a textured gold bezel.
Completing the design is an unusual integrated 18K yellow gold bracelet composed of multiple strands of twisted rope-style links. The intricate construction gives the watch the appearance of a woven gold bracelet, making it as much a piece of jewelry as a timepiece. Paired with the linen dial and textured case, it's a particularly interesting example of Baume & Mercier's more creative designs from this period. Watch weighs a total of 36.65g.

Case: Medium scratches and signs of wear consistent with age. Crown cabochon has medium abrasions throughout.
Strap/Bracelet: 18K yellow gold rope bracelet has medium scratches and wear throughout. Clasp stamped "750" & "BMG". Fits a maximum wrist size of 6".
Dial/Crystal/Hands: Linen dial is in well-preserved condition with minimal signs of aging. Swiss Made at 6:00 has light discoloration. Oxidation on hands. Crystal has light scratches throughout.
