Baume & Mercier is one of Switzerland's oldest watchmakers and today sits alongside brands such as Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Vacheron Constantin within the Richemont Group. During the 1960s and 1970s, the brand experimented with bold case shapes and colorful stone dials, creating some of its most distinctive and jewelry-inspired designs.
This reference 38244T2 perfectly reflects that era. Crafted in solid 18K yellow gold, the watch measures 25mm x 22mm and just 6mm thick. The highlight is undoubtedly its vibrant turquoise dial, one of the most visually-appealing examples we've encountered. Free from indices and unnecessary distractions, the rich blue stone takes center stage, framed only by a simple polished gold bezel. We believe the dial is reconstituted turquoise- a process that combines natural turquoise with resin to create a smooth, even-colored surface.
Completing the design is an elegant integrated 18K yellow gold bracelet featuring delicate bow-like links that add a distinctly feminine touch while maintaining the watch's refined, jewelry-like character. The result is a beautifully balanced dress watch that captures the creativity and elegance of Baume & Mercier's most expressive period.
Condition Report:
Case: In very good condition with signs of wear consistent with age. Moderate scratches and indentations throughout case and bezel. Light pitting in some areas.
Strap/Bracelet: 18K yellow gold bracelet has medium scratches and dings throughout. New 14K gold safety chain has been installed. Hinged clasp stamped "750", "BMC" and "299". Fits a maximum wrist size of 6.5".
Dial/Crystal/Hands: Turquoise dial is in well-preserved condition with very minimal signs of age/spotting. Light oxidation on hands. Crystal has light scratches throughout.
Movement: Manual Winding Baume & Mercier Caliber winds, sets and runs with a 5-position average of -16 S/D | 241° AMP | 0.1MS BE
