Our Perspective:

Cartier makes some pieces that even the top collectors sometimes have never even seen. Many of these happen to be one-offs made for specific countries. At Rare-Wrist, we've had the pleasure of selling and collecting many of these, such as the Cartier Tank Basculante limited to 26 pieces for Australia or the ultra rare Santos Dumont made for the Anniversary of Brazil. This specific piece, an 18K yellow gold Tank Française, was made in a limited edition of 100 pieces in 1998 to commemorate the Centennial Anniversary of Philippine Independence from Spain in 1898. The beautiful guilloche dial features these two important years along with the sun from the Philippines flag and the caseback features a limited edition engraving. We've only seen a few ever come up at auction, with the last one selling at Antiquorum in 2024. While it's an amazing limited-edition collector's piece for anybody, if you have special ties to the Philippines or are of Filipino descent and happen to be a watch collector, this may be holy grail of Cartier timepieces.
