18K Cartier Tank Obus 2380D W1527551 "CPCP" Large Model Watch

Our Perspective:

First introduced in 1923, the Cartier Tank Obus remains one of the lesser-seen designs in the Tank family, distinguished by its square case and unusual cylindrical lugs. The model was later revived as part of Cartier's Collection Privée Cartier Paris (CPCP), a series dedicated to bringing some of the Maison's most important historical designs back into production with exceptional finishing and mechanical movements.

This 18K gold Ref. 2380D / W1527551 from circa the late 1990s to early 2000s is, in our opinion and that of many other collectors, one of the best executions of the Tank Obus. Measuring 26.5mm x 26.5mm and 8mm thick, the Large Model offers elegant proportions with a striking guilloché dial featuring a delicate floral motif at its center. Unlike some of the more elaborate CPCP dial variations, this cleaner configuration allows the beautiful guilloché work and distinctive case design to speak for themselves. Inside is a manually wound Piaget-based caliber, beautifully finished and visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback. Between its unusual architecture, refined dial, and mechanical pedigree, this is a particularly desirable example of Cartier's CPCP era.

Condition Report:

Case: Unpolished case has been regularly worn with medium scratches and indentations throughout.

Strap/Bracelet: Original Cartier 18K deployant clasp has moderate scratches and indentations throughout. Brown crocodile Cartier strap has medium creasing and wear throughout. Watch fits a maximum wrist size of 7.5".

Dial/Crystal/Hands: Dial and hands are in well-preserved condition with no signs of age/wear. Crystal has medium scratches and small chips throughout.

Movement: Manual-winding Cartier caliber 430MC (Piaget-based) is in perfect visual condition and winds, sets and runs with a 5-position average of +10.5 S/D | 275° AMP | 0.1 MS BE.
