Few watches capture Piaget’s approach to the jewelry watch quite like the original Polo. During the 1980s, the brand combined ultra-thin watchmaking with bold precious metal designs, and the Polo blurred the line between bracelet and watch, with its integrated construction giving the entire piece the appearance of a continuous block of gold.
This circa 1980s Ref. 8131 C 701 is an exceptionally rare configuration and the first small-size yellow gold Polo we have ever seen come to market with a lapis lazuli dial. Measuring just 20mm and 5.5mm thick, it weighs an incredible 114 grams, giving it substantial presence despite its petite dimensions. The highlight is the remarkably well-preserved lapis dial, especially considering these stone dials are often found cracked, crazed, or chipped. Even better, the watch just returned from a full Piaget service in October 2026, receiving a movement service, new hands, and a new crystal, while everything else was left untouched. Between the perfect lapis dial, rare proportions, sheer amount of 18K gold, and fresh factory service, this is one of the most special vintage Polos we have encountered.
Condition Report:
Case: Appears to be unpolished with deep hallmarks and engravings on caseback. Medium scratches and dings are present throughout the case and bezel consistent with age and wear.
Bracelet: Integrated 18K yellow gold bracelet is in good condition with medium signs of wear throughout including scratches and dings. Fits a maximum wrist size of 6.5 inches (additional links can be sourced upon request). The clasp shows medium scratches and is signed Piaget and 750.
Dial/Crystal/Hands: Original Piaget lapis lazuli dial is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or damage. Sapphire crystal and gold hands have been replaced by Piaget during service.
Movement: Quartz Piaget Calibre sets and runs without issue. Watch had a full service by Piaget in October 2026.
