18K Piaget Protocole 9154 Mother of Pearl & Onyx Dial Watch

Our Perspective:

Just recently, Piaget has seen a major resurgence in collector interest, driven by renewed appreciation for the brand’s ultra-thin watchmaking, precious metal construction, and distinctive dial work. Stone and organic dials in particular have become increasingly sought after, highlighting Piaget’s unique ability to blend artistry with technical refinement.

This Ref. 9154 Piaget Protocole, produced circa 1970s–1980s, captures all of those qualities perfectly. Its 25mm x 27.5mm 18K white gold case measures an impressively slim 5mm thick, maintaining Piaget’s signature ultra-thin profile while offering a more architectural wrist presence. The standout feature is the rare factory mother-of-pearl and onyx dial, an incredible display of craftsmanship. Mother of pearl is an exceptionally fragile material, already difficult to cut into an ultra-thin dial, let alone inlaid with contrasting black onyx.

Powering the watch is the manual-winding Piaget Caliber 9P, one of the brand’s most celebrated ultra-thin movements. It has recently received a new generic black lizard strap and steel buckle.

Condition Report:

Case: In strong condition with deep bezel beveling, sharp hallmark under crown and caseback engravings. Medium scratches and small nicks throughout case and bezel. Caseback has a noticeable dent near top lug. 

Strap/Bracelet: Replacement generic black lizard strap and stainless steel buckle is in lightly-worn condition. Fits a maximum wrist size of 7.75".

Dial/Crystal/Hands: Factory Piaget Onyx/MoP dial is in well-preserved condition with 2 very small hairline cracks on the onyx in the 1 o'clock corner (pictured). These are only visible under magnification. There is also light fading on the "P" in Piaget. Sapphire crystal has minor scratches and signs of use throughout. Light oxidation on hands. 

Movement: Piaget manual-winding Caliber 9P Movement is in nice visual condition and is running strong with a 5-position average of -2.6 S/D | 237° AMP | .7 MS BE.
