1972 14K Rolex Cellini 3834 Tank Watch

Our Perspective:

While Rolex is best known for its sport models, the discontinued Cellini collection offered the brand an opportunity to showcase a more refined and traditional side of watchmaking. This 1972 Cellini reference 3834 is an excellent and seldom-seen example, crafted entirely in 14K yellow gold with a clean and simple matte white roman dial. Measuring 23mm x 28mm (excluding lugs) and just 5mm thick, it wears with the slim, elegant proportions expected of a classic men's dress watch.

What makes this particular example especially desirable is its remarkable state of preservation. Presented in near NOS condition, it retains sharp hallmarks along with its original faded caseback sticker, details rarely found on a watch of this age. As one of the few tank-shaped designs in Rolex's history, the Cellini 3834 stands as a refined and uncommon expression of the brand's dress watch heritage.

Condition Report:

Case: Unpolished case has signs of light wear and handling including minor scratches and dings on the case and bezel. Deep hallmark visible on case at 9 o'clock. Gold case shows light oxidation/patina throughout.

Strap/Bracelet: Replacement generic black lizard strap shows light wear throughout. The original gold-plated Rolex pin buckle displays medium scratches and oxidation and is signed "Rolex" Fits a maximum wrist size of 7.25 inches.

Dial/Crystal/Hands: Dial and hands are in well-preserved condition with minimal to no signs of age. Crystal has faint scratches visible under magnification.

Movement: Manual-winding Rolex Caliber 1600 is in extremely well-preserved condition and is running at a strong 5-position average of +5 S/D | 276° AMP | 0.4MS BE.
