When most people think of Audemars Piguet, the Royal Oak usually comes to mind, but the brand’s vintage dress watches from the 1960s are some of the most interesting and overlooked pieces in their history. This “disco volante” model is a perfect example, with its wide, saucer-like bezel that gives the watch a striking presence on the wrist. The 31mm 18k yellow gold case wears larger than the dimensions suggest, thanks to its bold bezel design, and still retains its original unsigned crown and snap-back case construction.
The cream dial, with applied gold markers, baton hands, and subsidiary seconds, offers just the right amount of vintage character with only minor wear concentrated near the edges. Under the hood is the Audemars Piguet caliber 2001, a finely finished manually wound movement with 18 jewels, adjusted to four positions and temperatures.
Condition Report:
Good overall condition. Case shows moderate scratches and dents throughout. Acrylic crystal is in great condition with a few small scratches. Hallmarks on both lugs and caseback are crisp and deep. 18K gold case shows medium patina throughout. Original and untouched dial shows light spotting and discoloration. Strap and buckle are generic (Non-AP) and lightly worn. Watch is running at time of cataloging, however, service is recommended on this timepiece for accurate timekeeping.
