Our Perspective:

If you only think about Royal Oaks or Offshores when you hear Audemars Piguet, then you're missing out on some amazing vintage watches. This watch was produced in the 1970s and features a solid 18K white gold case, a perfectly-preserved rare black dial and and the thin manual-winding AP Cal. K2001/1A. The value for the price of vintage Audemars Piguet dress watches is unbeatable, and unfortunately there hasn't been any watch even remotely similar to this design language in Audemars Piguet's catalog in decades. It's a minimalist watch that is strong in details, like it's uncommon cross-hatch Florentine-style finished bezel, pencil hands and woven integrated bracelet.
This example is slightly more interesting than most because if you take a look at the movement bridge, you will see "AUDEMARS PIGUFT" engraved. Maybe it was close to lunch time in the 1970s for this engraver, but even with the more relaxed quality control of that era, a typo like this is extremely uncommon for Audemars Piguet. Mistakes of this kind almost never left the factory, which makes this piece a quirky and genuinely rare slice of AP history that gets a shock and smile from the most seasoned AP collectors. This exact watch was sold through highly-reputable vintage dealers that did not catch this error prior to it being in our hands, and there is no question about the authenticity of this piece.

Condition Report:

Very Good overall condition. Case and bracelet are in impressive vintage condition and appear to be unpolished. Bezel and bracelet texture is visible and strong. Medium scratches and indentations throughout case and bracelet, more noticeable on the side of the case from the caseback being opened & caseback from normal wear. Faint scratches at crystal. Dial is in extremely well-preserved condition with no signs of refinishing, significant flaws or damage. Light patina on some indices. Crisp hallmarks visible on buckle and caseback. Movement is clean and winds, sets and runs without issues and runs at a great 5-position average of -2.8 S/D | 0.1MS BE | 261 Degree Amplitude. Watch has a 2 position adjustable closure and fits a max wrist size between 6.75-7 Inches.
